Q: Have not got a family yet so have no idea where I'll be staying. Fingers crossed I get one soon :) Loads of practice, got it! It must've been pretty tiring constantly having to translate. Hope you don't mind me asking, but how much did you end up spending while you were there? I'm trying to save up as much as possible but it's always nice to know what to expect. Thanks :)

I didn’t really have that strict of a budget when I went, so I don’t know exactly how much I spent. The great thing about Panama is how cheap everything is. The bus ride to school cost me 15 cents when I was in my school uniform. If I wasn’t in my uniform, it cost 25 cents. And all travel expenses like that, AFS Panama will reimburse you for. You could take a taxi to school every day (which won’t cost you more than $2, if you’re not being ripped off), and get all that money back at the end of each month. If you don’t go crazy shopping (although it is tons of fun to go to Albrook Mall in Panama City), you can definitely limit your expenses. Probably what I spent the most money on was AFS trips to Kuna Yala and Bocas del Toro, which were definitely worth every penny! If you set yourself a budget, it shouldn’t be hard to stick with it in Panama :D
